I hate it when that happens
26 September 2013
I heard a *THUMP* and then a few seconds later a "WAAAAAA!!" You know it's bad when there is a pause for air before the scream.
So I RAN into the bathroom where Kyler was and this is what I saw:
He wasn't hurt. Just mad. Apparently the TP was too far away and he took it down with him. I hate it when that happens! When the toilet paper is too far away...not the falling off the toilet part....not that I don't hate that too, but it just hasn't happened to me before (thankfully haha!).

Eavesdropping on Us (part 2)
23 September 2013
I wrote a post similar to this one over a year ago. (see it here part 1) I thought it would be fun to do it again, now that Kyler is 2 and is talking so much more! Here are a few things we have said recently:
We were at the park and Kyler comes walking up to me holding out his hands...
Kyler: "Look Mama, green!"
Char: "Is that chewed gum?! EWWW put it down! Let's go wash your hands!"
Kyler woke up screaming in the middle of the night...
Jared: "Kyler what's wrong? Did you have a nightmare?"
Kyler: " Yeah I scared of night-mirrors. A thunder in night-mirrors and the dark outside and lightening scare me!" (nightmare night-mirrors. close enough)
In the car after church...
Kyler: "Dada, Kyler wants candy, cracker, chip, and a cookie. Okay?" (healthy choices)
Jared noticed Kyler was being awfully quiet....
Jared: (from the kitchen) "Kyler what are you doing?"
Kyler: (in the livingroom) "No no Kyler! No color on toy!" (he tattles on himself)
I was carrying Kyler to the time-out chair...
Kyler blurted: "I sorry mama I love you hug?"
We were at a baptism and after the girl came up after being submersed in the water (very spiritual moment)...
Kyler: "SPLASH!!"
As I am putting Kyler's stroller back in the car after our walk, Kyler walks to me and is holding out his hands...
Kyler: "Look Mama, dis ball ucky?"
Char: "KYLER THAT IS DOG POOP. PUT IT DOWN!!!" (and you thought the chewed gum was gross)

Kyler looks so sweet and peaceful when he sleeps...but when he is awake he is a non-stop talking trouble maker. He likes to boss our dog around and make him do whatever he wants. The other day Kyler dug out two red hats and made Bauer copy him. Poor dog.
Does this kid need a sibling or what?
Ding-dong the Wasp is Dead
18 September 2013
Last Monday Jared ran inside the house, and then back outside with a bottle of raid in his hands.
"What could he be up to?" I thought as I was scrubbing the dishes and cleaning the whole house. Okay, I was actually sitting on the couch on instagram- lets be real.
When he came back inside a few minutes later he showed me what he had been doing. (Good thing I had my phone so handy because I snapped a picture for you!) Apparently while Jared was trimming the bushes in the front yard, he got stung by a wasp on his ankle. So he decided to get revenge, and kill the bug, because "it hurt!" Jared said as I rolled my eyes.

You can see the little sting mark right above his sock |
After he sprayed the wasp he saw another one, and decided to kill its' family too. Actually I see it more as revenge for Kyler, because Kyler got stung a few months back in our yard.
I now feel sorry for rolling my eyes at Jared's "It hurt!" comment, because I guess he had an allergic reaction. His whole ankle got sooo swollen and bruised looking. I took the picture below today, he got stung over a week ago, and it looks worse than ever.
The shiny stuff is just a little ointment |
I made Jared go to the doctor today, and the doctor gave him a steroid shot to help the swelling go down; now that dang wasp got him twice! :p Hopefully it gets better fast!
Something good in every day
15 September 2013
It has been a rough couple of weeks sleeping wise for this family. Normally Kyler goes to bed without a fuss from 8pm-8am and then takes a good 2 hr nap in the middle of the day. Recently, Kyler decided to switch things up and would scream when we tried to leave his room after saying goodnight like normal. Then he was waking up several times during the night screaming, and then not wanting to sleep or be alone whenever he woke up. He also wasn't taking his naps, and because of this he was cranky- which definitely rubbed off on me. This sleeping issue was a new challenge for me! However, (knock on wood) I think we are finally through that phase, and his sleep routine is back to normal (yes!).
Rather than focusing on the negative things, I'd like to flash back to some happy moments that we experienced these last two weeks...boy does Kyler sure make us smile a lot in this house!
I never would have thought I would be pushing balloons on a swing..I love Kyler's funny little requests.
We don't give Kyler soda very often, so the 'strange' carbonation makes for some hilarious faces.
Yesterday we discovered a park in our neighborhood that has a sand volleyball court. Sand + a balloon= Kyler heaven.
Last week we went to "Food Truck Friday" in Charlotte. I love finding new things to do!

A few weeks ago, while cleaning my mom and dad's bathroom, Kyler discovered a sun prism...light coming through the shower door. Kyler was very amused and kept squealing "Rainbow stuck!"
Jared gave Kyler his first top. To say he was amused would be an understatement- he loved it!
We decided to switch our morning routine up one morning by eating breakfast on the back deck.

Twenty-Five years old
13 September 2013
Here's an email I received from my mom (she is in Chile...see her blog here) last week:
"I have already been wanting to wish you HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I know its not for a few days but I neverr know when we'll get internet and I wouldn't want to miss it. How about you take a photo every hour on the hour on your day and send it to me so I can share your birthday with you?"
annnnnnnnnnnnd..... Here is the picture she got. I wasn't very diligent with my picture taking duty. Ooops!
Jared had to go to class the night of my birthday, and I refused to let him skip just because it was my birthday so we're going to celebrate it this weekend! Also, poor Kyler has been having a hard time sleeping the past 2 weeks (night terrors? I guessed I bragged about how good of a sleeper he has always been too many times!) so that is why he wasn't napping at noon like normal and wasn't asleep by 9pm, and looks cranky in a few pictures.
Explanations:
1) Chick-fil-A sauce from my husband, because he was already at work by the time I woke up. He knows me too well!
2) Kyler wanted balloons for himself (not me).
3) Cranky non sleeping naked child.
4) Self explanatory
5) Finally dressed getting ready to take Ky to preschool
6) I had some friends over for a girls night. Kyler crashed it. haha. This was right before he grabbed the fingernail polish remover that my friend was using and dumped it all over his front. Awesome. It was a fun night though!

I love this kind of family fun!
08 September 2013
On Saturday we went to the county fair! So fun. Kyler got to ride a Ferris wheel for the first time! He was a little scared at first...
...but by the end he loved it! Also notice he got a hair cut :)
Jared and I were wondering how much money the fair brought in...because seriously everything is so expensive at fairs...all of the food, rides, games, and admission and it was so crowded! We went to the Raleigh STATE fair last year (it brought in 2.6 MILLION). This little county fair was nowhere near the size of the Raleigh state fair, but I'm guessing it still made a lot.
Kyler loved going on the fire truck ride (I think I liked it more though).
A balloon game. Need I say more?
And what's a fair without cotton candy?
He snarfed it down. Literally.
I Love Balloons Song
06 September 2013
Last weekend I wanted to document Kyler singing, because before I know it he will be grown and won't want to sing anymore when I ask him to-especially not in front of a camera. I love his little singing voice, he is going make a great Sunbeam in 4 months!
It's no secret that my little boy loves balloons. I recently recorded him singing one of his favorite songs (its about balloons of course!).
I also took a short video of him saying words that he mispronounces that I think are so cute! I've been meaning to do this for several weeks, and unfortunately (fortunately?) his pronunciation is getting better and better everyday so he doesn't say them as cute as he used to haha.Oh well!

Cooking with toddler gone wrong
03 September 2013
I recently read a very convincing article online that said "Let your children cook in the kitchen with you, sure it may be a little messy and may take longer, but they love it, and it is good bonding time." or something like that.
On Friday, Kyler helped me make breakfast biscuits for dinner. It's a simple recipe: refrigerated biscuits put in muffin tins with eggs, meat and cheese then baked. I thought it would be perfect for little helping hands. Kyler loved helping. He especially loved squishing the biscuit dough like play-doh. All of his little comments and interpretations about what I was doing were hilarious. We were off to a good start.
"What a great idea!!" I thought.

When I got to the part in the recipe that involved cracking the eggs... Kyler of course wanted to hold an egg.
"Be soft" I told him.
I cracked a few eggs and glanced over at him...he was mimicking me by ever so softly shaking his precious egg clutched in his tiny hands, being very careful. It was so cute I called Jared over to watch Kyler "crack" his egg.
But Kyler didn't "ever so softly shake his egg carefully" this time. He squeezed it instead.
Jared grabbed the camera just in time, and jokingly asked me what I was thinking when I gave our 2 year old an egg. Luckily, I was standing right next to Kyler and was able to prevent the egg from falling onto the floor, but it did, however, get all over his clothes.
After I washed our hands, sanitized the counters, and changed Kyler into clean clothes, we were back in the kitchen. THIS time I decided it would be best if Kyler stayed on the floor while I cracked the last egg.
As I cracked the last egg, I laughed to myself thinking about what a horribly messy idea cooking with kids in the kitchen was....and in that very second I heard an ear piercing goose-bump raising scream coming from Kyler who was standing behind me with his hand in a drawer.
"Oh no! He shut his finger in the drawer" was my first thought.
I gave him a hug and told him that it as okay, but he continued to scream -that ear piercing scream- which is very unusual for him.
Then, I noticed the the drawer that I thought he had shut his finger in was still hanging wide open. If he had shut his finger in the drawer it shouldn't be open that wide- I thought.
Next, I noticed what was actually in the drawer. The potato slicer.
I removed his arms that were clutched around my neck, and I saw blood coming from his left hand. I got really squeamish and yelled for Jared to come help. I'm so glad that Jared was home. I probably would have cried if I was alone. haha.
After applying pressure and several paper towels, the bleeding slowed down and we were able to see the cut (about a half inch wide) on his thumb. It was deep, but wasn't horrible looking. We didn't know if it would need stitches or not. We put a band-aid on it after the bleeding slowed down, and Kyler stopped crying. The bandaid didn't work too well:
We decided to call our health insurance's 24/7 nurse line. Jared described to the nurse what happened, how long it bled for, and what it looked like now. She suggested that we take him in to urgent care, because he would probably benefit from a few stitches. I felt so bad for having a potato slicer in my drawer. We used to have child locks on all of our cabinets at our previous rental house, but we haven't had any issues with Kyler playing in cabinets or drawers since we moved to this house. Lesson learned.
At the urgent care Kyler was charming all of the nurses with his cute smile while talking up a storm! I started to wonder why we had brought him in because he seemed too happy to be at the doctors, but then I looked down at his finger and it had started bleeding through his band aid again (an hour later). What kid smiles like this with a sliced open finger while at the doctors office? Kyler!
Rather than terrorize Kyler with stitches, the doctor decided to use liquid stitches (pretty much skin glue) as an alternative, which works just as good stitches (for a cut on a child's thumb), but is faster. The doctor did an anesthetic injection on his finger before using the glue. While we were waiting for his finger to go numb, Kyler went to town with a highlighter that Jared had in his pocket.
Here is his finger all glued together! Let's just say Kyler wont be cooking in the kitchen with me anytime soon.
The doctor said to not submerge his thumb in water for 2 weeks, but that's nothing a plastic bag can't fix... the beach last weekend was awesome!
When we put a bag on Kyler's hand he got really excited (to my surprise) and said:
"A sleeping bag for my hand!"
For the record we discovered latex gloves work best for keeping water out.
Now every night before bath time, Kyler asks me for his "hand sleeping bag". I'm so glad he doesn't complain about having to wear a rubber glove every time he is near water!
