Halloween Party and Cake Batter Bars!

22 October 2011

We went to our church Halloween party today! It was fun dressing up. We went as Nintendo characters. Jared was Mario, I was Princess Peach, and Kyler was Toad (the little mushroom). We didn't want to waste a lot of money on expensive costumes (that we would only wear once) So I decided to make them! Jared was such a good sport. I found his overalls at the DI in the Ladies section with Winnie the Pooh and Piglet patches all over them (nothing a seam ripper can't fix!) hahaha and then I made the rest of his and kyler's costumes out of felt and hot glue. Mine was a little more tricky, so I ended up just wearing my wedding dress and putting pink fabric on top of it.

They didn't turn out to be the cutest costumes in the world, but hey, for making all three of our costumes for under 15 bucks, NOT BAD!

Introducing:
CAKE BATTER BARS

This recipe will definitely be going under the "Recipe Likes" tab! My absolute FAVORITE ice cream in the world is from Coldstone, and it is called Birthday Cake Remix (which uses cake batter ice cream)  Anyways, so anything with the words CAKE BATTER in it always grabs my attention. I saw the recipe and decided to give it a try!  Mine didn't LOOK nearly as pretty as the picture I copied and pasted from the internet, but boy did they taste YUMMY! and the best part? SO easy to make.  Oh and I almost forgot to add: Sorry if you are on a diet. You may now consider yourself doomed.

  • 1 1/4 cup funfetti cake mix
  • 3/4 cup AP flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 5 heaping tablespoons sprinkles of your choice
  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Grease an 8 x 8 inch pan.
  2. Cream both sugars, butter, vanilla, egg, and egg yolk.
  3. Gradually mix in flour, cake mix, and baking soda until just mixed. Stir in sprinkles.
  4. Spread batter evenly into greased pan.
  5. Bake for 30ish minutes until top is lightly browned and middle still jiggles slightly. Cool completely before cutting.
